The years of Hunger, Hardship and Popular Revolt (1830s)
- The years of 1830s were so called because of the following reasons:
- There was an enormous increase in population which led to food shortages.
- There was widespread unemployment.
- Cities were overcrowded due to large scale migration of people from villages to towns in search of jobs.
- Local trade suffered due to flooding of cheap machine made goods from England.
- Peasants were struggling under the burden of feudal dues and obligations.
- A year of bad harvest added to their problems.
- All these culminated into a series of revolts all over the Europe which saw overthrowing of Monarchies.
